Wow!
Chris Paul and David West were just announced as All-Star reserves live on TNT. Chris Paul, we knew you were due. Congrats on your first, dude. I'm sure you'll be back for many more.
But how about David West? Damn, I didn't see that coming. No doubt in my mind that he deserves it, but I didn't think the coaches would see it the same way. I guess an incredible record and consistent production are taken into consideration after all.
Big Easy D-Weezy in the All-Star game fo sheezy.
Spare a thought though for Tyson Chandler. I can't imagine he missed out by much. Fuel for the fire, big man. Keep working and let's get three guys in there next year.

Update: Quotes from the press release...
"This is a special moment for me that I share with my teammates, the organization and our fans," said Paul. "I'm truly honored to be able to make my first All-Star appearance in New Orleans and I'm thrilled that I can make it along with D-West, since we've both worked so hard together over the last two-and-a-half years to get this team to where we are now."
"Being named an All-Star is something that I look at as not an individual honor, but one that comes from the overall success of the team," said West. "I'm proud that I was voted to the team, but I'm even more proud of what we've been able to accomplish together on the court and for what it all means to the organization and to the city of New Orleans."
"On behalf of our entire organization and the fans of New Orleans, I'd like to congratulate Chris and David on their selection to the All-Star Team," said Hornets Owner George Shinn. "I'm looking forward to people around the world being able to see not only their talents on the court, but also the great character that makes them such outstanding representatives for the Hornets, the NBA and our city."

Over at my linked site someone blasted D-West saying he was only a good pick and roll player and not an individual scorer. Retribution was sweet.

And with the Celtics beating the Mavs in Boston a minute ago, Byron Scott is now officially the coach of the 2008 Western Conference All-Stars. James Posey, I'll have a whiskey in your honor tonight. Legend.

Yeah, Greg - I saw he was trying to say Boozer is way more of a post up player and that West is all jumpshot. Boozer is 57% jumpshot, 43% close scoring, West is 61% Jumpshot, 39% close. Not a huge difference there.

This is so great. I love how spoiled we are this season with the Hornets! David West is the man and whoever says he is a one dimensional player is either blind or retarded. In the beggining of his career he was a 12th man on the roster and year by year he made his stats and game better. Like i remember when he scored those 3 buzzer beaters he was just a jumpshot PF with mid-range, right now you have an array of post up moves, pick and roll, mid-range jumpshot and even a 3point shot. Not only the offence but defence of this big guy is outstanding. He still has space to get better but at the moment I think with the record and his solid and most of all CONSISTENT play he fully deserved it!

A quote I saw from the TrueHoop comparing CP3 with Deron Williams today. "But he will always be the guy who was picked just before Chris Paul. And the last few months are when the league learned that -- magnificent as Williams is -- he's no Chris Paul." Does Deron Williams have a nickname?

Very well said, Fartman. @Saunak: I saw that quote. Truehoop rocks. I don't know of a nickname for Williams though.

I think Truehoop just gave him a nickname. "Not Quite CP3"

Congrats boys, and Byron. As for Tyson, you have the rest of the season to prove all the coaches wrong (as I stand up and "supaman").

i heart the celtics. not only was that game entertaining, the celtics are fun to watch, and today because of them, bryon will coach the west. he'll coach for the second time, and this is the first time since i think 1975 that the head coaches for the all star game are african american! very cool!

baron davis should have got the nod for the playoffs. he's had a better year than the bradon roy, better numbers, and his team is higher in teh standings. i doubt the blazers will make the playoffs with the way they're falling. nice defense on lebron idiots!

and camby was snubbed as well. when are they going to give a nod to defense? he's had the best rebounding/blocks numbers and is the main reason denver has a winning record. he fixes most of their mistakes. he's never been an all star, and i hope tyson doesn't get snubbed like he has in the next few years.

Sparks I think most people can agree that Marcus Camby was snubbed, but it wasn't the coaches that snubbed him; it was AI. With AI getting picked, there was no way the Nuggets who currently are in 7th in the west deserved 3 all stars. He shouldn't blame the coaches; he should blame AI.
