So we lose to the Wizards on Monday, then trounce the Suns on Wednesday. Ah yes, welcome to the NBA my friends, where everything makes about as much sense as a bottle of pizza.

Tonight the Hornets completed a season sweep of the Suns, winning by a score of 120-103 ( box | recap | standings ). It was a wonderful game, full of passing and dribbling, shooting and scoring, and even the odd spot of rebounding. People cheered, people danced, people almost peed their pants. It was a fine place to be.
Nice and toasty game notes...
- We were firing on all cylinders for this one, with no less than six players scoring in double figures. Morris Peterson even followed up his nice game on Monday by dropping all five of his shots for 11 points in 19 minutes of action.
- Despite giving up 103 points tonight, I thought our defense was pretty solid. We got our asses back and held the Suns to just 12 fast-break points, limited their open looks from the perimeter, and did a nice job clogging the lane when dudes like Barbosa came tearing through. It was a good team effort.
- David West had himself a helluva time out there. Looks like the Suns forgot to watch themselves some game tape, because they either sent a half-assed double team at West tonight, or they didn't double him at all. D-Weezy responded with 25 points in the first 30 minutes of game time, and finished with 27 points on 11-of-22 shooting. He only had four rebounds, but then...
- Tyson Chandler grabbed himself 15 boards and threw in 12 points for some of that delicious boxscore balance. He did get in foul trouble again (21 personals in four games now, TC), and he still seems more focused on arguing calls than playing the game, but he got the job done tonight. Here's hoping he's turned the corner and that slump is behind him.
- Shining brighter than anyone else out there tonight was Christopher Emmanuel Paul. He was like the sun, and all the other guys were like planets orbiting around him, except imagine the sun is the smallest thing in the solar system, and all the planets are bigger and have more tattoos. Yeah, that's exactly what it was like.
CP finished with 25 points, 15 assists, 6 rebounds, and 3 of those steal things that the opposing players dislike so much. - Ever the sadist though, there was me watching Chris score at will in the fourth quarter, and wondering why the hell he didn't have that attacking mentality with him on Monday when we really needed it.
I hate to question anything after a big win, but it's just amazing the difference in Paul and the Hornets these last two games. It confuses my brain and my mind. - So Steve Nash was scoreless until midway through the third quarter. He finished with 8 points, 13 assists and 4 turnovers. It's not the first time he's struggled against us this season, and I'm not sure exactly what the Hornets are doing to throw him off. Any ideas?
- A big key to the win tonight was preventing any serious Suns runs. I think the most consecutive points they reeled off in this one was like 6 or 7. I'm no expert on these guys, but I believe the usually crank out at least a couple of double-digit runs every game. They looked pretty disheartened after we killed their 4-0 run to start the fourth quarter, then started getting a little physical and throwing some cheap shots. Kinda like we did against Houston last Friday.
- Also reminiscent of that Rocks game was all the starters on the floor with three minutes left and the game long decided. I fail to see the logic there, Byron. I want an explanation on my desk by tomorrow morning.
- Nice job by the bench tonight. We had five reserves in there to start the second quarter, while the Suns left in a couple of starters (Shaq and Grant Hill). Jannero Pargo took on most of the scoring load, while everyone else fought tooth and nail on defense. By the time we got some starters back out there, we hadn't lost any ground.
- Peja dropped 6-of-12 for 17 points. Can anyone remember the last time he and Mo-Pete both shot at least fifty percent from the field in the same game? Wasn't Michael Bolton real popular back then?
- Play of the game, no doubt: Three minutes and change left in the second quarter, and Pargo comes up with a steal, gets it to CP, and a fast-break is born. Chris runs the middle, with Pargo and Peja seemingly the only available targets as they run the wings. Neither guy gets it, as CP instead drops it back to a trailing Chandler. TC rises up and throws down a Dwight Howard-like superman dunk, except he actually dunks the damn thing. Amare Stoudamire chose to get out of the way, and he chose well.
- The crowd went apeshit for that jam. The game was sold out, with attendance announced as 17,931. Nice and loud those folks were. So so nice to have the Hornets play like that in front of a sell out crowd. A flat performance like Monday would not have gone down well.
- Amare's line tonight: 32 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 blocks.
- Some dude wearing #43 came in the game for the Suns and matched up against David West late in the first quarter. I didn't know who the hell he was, and neither did the self-proclaimed "diehard" Suns fans beside me. He wasn't even listed in the game program. A minute later though they showed his mug on the big screen, and it was none other than the mug of Mr. Linton Johnson, he who played his college ball at Tulane and spent some quality time in Byron Scott's doghouse back in OKC.
LJ III is on a ten-day with the Suns, but played 24 minutes out there tonight. He spent most of the second half trying to slow Chris Paul, which didn't work out too good. - Speaking of former Hornets, Robert Pack (he from way back) was in the building. They announced him as "former New Orleans Hornet Robert Pack," because that whole Charlotte thing never happened.
- Almost forgot: Bonzi sat this one out. I guess that Achilles is still hurting. Hopefully it's nothing too serious, because Pargo can't drop 22 off the bench every night.
- Bright Side of the Sun wrap it up from the other side.
So that was a nice win. Next up we've got the Jazz in New Orleans on Friday, on national TV no less. But we'll talk all about that in due time. Right now, I'm gonna go to bed happy that the Hornets are still capable of playing some damn fine basketball.
[Update] Interesting breakdown of Nash's defensive struggles last night from The X's and O's of Basketball.

Amazing game and I love seeing CP3 and Chandler connector for those ally-ops. Does anyone know why Byron waits kept the starters on the floor so late into the game with about a 20 point lead? I know we don't have 20 point leads all the time, but does he always wait till the last 1-2 minutes before he starts garbage time.

Yeah, that's exactly what it was like. ron is so funny. tattoos! lol. his middle name is Emmanuel....i guess his parents didn't like him at first. i wouldn't' tell ppl that was my middle name. no siree i too wonder why he doesn't get aggressive some games. i'm really happy to see mo's back is out of the way for the moment while he has 3 good games in a row. not forcing things and just playing. hopefully it continues, cuz we need him without bonzi playing.

Thanks anonymous dude. You're absolutely right about Pack. For some reason I thought he played in teal way back in the 90's. Fact checking goes out the window at 1am on a work night. @sparks: That YouTube group has been left on the backburner a little. I've gone to it a few times in the past couple months to add videos, and somehow it doesn't let me do it through favorites anymore. I need to figure it out. Don't forget though that anyone can sign up to that group and add videos, so feel free to knock yourselves out.

Wow, a Linton Johnson sighting. I think the highlight of his career thusfar was when he gave a heart-felt little pre-game speech in New Orleans 2 years ago, when the Hornets only played 3 games in the Big Easy. It's good to see someone giving the kid a chance. More power to ya LJ. Its amazing how much better our defense is when we're making shots on the other end of the floor. PHX wasn't getting many fast break points because they had to take the ball out from the baseline, rather than catching a rebound and running like Forrest Gump tearing off his "magic legs". An interesting take on the trade... perhaps the player most affected so far was Mo Pete. It looks like he's re-gained his focus. Monday he was good offensively, but so-so from the defensive end. Last night he was good from both ends of the floor. Raja Bell was hot last night, but Mo Pete contained him pretty well, fighting through screens and such. About officiating... i give last night about a C-. Overall it was pretty good, but a 3-person officiating team at the pro level should be able to rotate better than that crewdid last night. They were caught out of position often, and it causes one of the officials that's not in the right position to make a call. Players get pissed at that, and as an official, you wind up jaw-jacking with players during timeouts. Whenever you have to start justifying your calls to the players, thats not a good thing. But nobody got killed, so we'll call it a success.

A lack of fatalities is always a good measure of success, I find.

i liked when CP3 took linton all the way across the court along the 3point line, then hit a bomb in his face. On the way back down, he gave him a slap on the ass to grow on.

From Jim Eichenhofer's observations post: <em>Bonzi Wells watched the game from the locker room due to a sore Achilles’ tendon. Scott clarified in his postgame chat that the reason Wells was not on the bench watching the game was because he failed to bring attire that would have met the standards of the NBA dress-code policy.</em> Nice job, Bonzi.

The TC dunk was the #1 play of the night on pretty much every major outlet. Clips do abound on different sites and YouTube. As for Bonzi not figuring out what NBA dress code is, either Adelman was a little lax on this matter or he's an ass. And the latter wouldnt' bode well for his playing time here.

i get kg not coming to the sidelines like he did when he was hurt. he even added that he had no sport jackets...lol. you could tell you loves his team, and probably couldn't stand sitting on the bench becaue he wanted to help his team. and of course he wore a suit at the all star game! but bonzi....come the fuck on. like ron said on HR, is bonzi has any ounce of intelligence during his CONTRACT year, he'll act like a good person..

i'm a raptor fan, and i recall some players borrowing jackets from teammates...actually it was morris last year. he's been an iron man for years and then got hurt, had to sit out and i recall him saying he had to borrow Chris Bosh's jacket....lol. lets just say chris is huge. he was probably swimming in his friends jacket just to sit on the sidelines and cheer on friends. he still does that, i want bonzi to do that. so far nada. mike james has cheered for us already. i loved the teams reaction to TC's dunk last night. i love the team chemsity...that even when they yell at each other for making a defensive mistake, they still cheer for one another when someone does something cool. like when peja hit that winner, guys jumped on him, mauled him, even when they know he's had back problems, or when hilton even makes a mistake, guys pat him on the head. they wait till somebody scores before sitting down. they act liek cheerleaders on the bench! they hang with one another after practice, go to movies...their wives and children hang out...i admire it and hope bonzi gets in on the act.

i wanna add, even tho all the starters make more money than cp3 right now in terms of team salary, they all know chris is the franchise. he is the guy they build around....and sometimes when you have that kind of thing, there is jealousy. see the suns with amare and especailly former sun shawn marion. both were jealous of steve, even though they made max money. or the raptors with Vince and Tmac in the late 99-00, or the shaq/kobe feud. here, you've got guys who get it. guys like peja, while making probably the most, doesn't get the touches some nights we all want, is like the third option a lot, yet we hear no peep. i just love that.

This team was built perfectly. You have the superstar future hall of fame PG running the show, a big man who can greab all the boards, set him tough picks and run the break. A PF who he can dump the ball of too down low or look for on open mid range jump shots, and 2 wings who can shoot it thus spreading the floor for everyone. Once Pargo, James and Wells learn to play togather this team is gonna be even better. That's probably the best thing about this team, everyone thinks we have peaked but in reality we are still far from it. Hopefully by mid-late march the bench has it togather and everyone knows their roles and we peak at the perfect time. Man this season has been so magical, you have to think that a champinchip would be the perctect way to cap it all off.

hey guys nice win yesterday against the suns, i am really exited for that game against the jazz tomarrow. im hoping CP repays Deron Williams for that beatdown last month. Anyways talked to my source yesterday wondering why the Grizz didn't make a move. he said hornets were talking to memphis but memphis a)didn't really want to move Miller to begin with and b)wanted teams to not only part with young prospects and draft picks but they also wanted teams to take Brian Cardinal off their hands. He said BG talk was dead because hornets were unwilling to move Wright and Armstrong. Hornets talked to a bunch of teams about a various players. They were talking to GS about Pietrus, barnes etc coming into the deadline, they were talking to Mavs about Stackhouse, they were looking in a lot places. Eventually they found a deal with houston which they thought we give them more toughness. My source said Byron was really scared by the Utah losses and by the Utah team in general, hornets seemed to always crumble to them. therefore, hornets felt they got 2 tough players who would not be scared to be pushed around by Harpring, Williams, Boozer and Millsap. He also said hornets are looking for a big man. PJ was option #1 but he is gone. There is intrest in Andersen but they fear that may take too long and there is questions about the type of salary the Hornets specifically would have to give him since they were the last team to retain his services when he got suspended. He didn't get into much detail so idk what that is about. Beyond Andersen some D-Leaguers, some old guys names are being thrown around but preety much the focus is all on Andersen. However, it should be noted that my source said there were two things that kept PJ Brown signing with the hornets. the first was obviously his feeling that Boston had a better chance. but he also felt that there would be more of an oppurtunity to get significant minutes in Boston. KG has a nagging injury, and perkins isnt much and glen davis is inconsistent. In New Orleans he would be behind two starters who get a lot of minutes and beyond that he would be ina situation where he would have to earn some minutes ahead of Ryan bowen, Hilton Armstrong, and Melvin Ely and possibly Andersen if they also signed him. Also Hornets look for the Hornets to sign either Haluska or Vinicius or if they dont sign them look for both of them to be in camp next year along with someone names Trey Johnson??? He said hornets like all 3 of those guys.

I'dlike tohaveHaluska back just to see what he can do. He hadone great pre-season game, he comes mighty cheap, and his resume made me think of a shorter Ryan Bowen with a jump shot. If Vinicous comes back we'll have to drive him out to a more remote part of the country before we release him next time. Everybody should give Bonzi a clean slate and stay off his case. He could be a GREAT addition if he starts feeling the love, so I'm doing my part to keep the vibes friendly. Now if we can make Jerry Sloan cry this friday, that should just about get the bad taste of the Wizards loss out of my mouth.
