Passion. Purpose. Pride.
The Hornets didn't have any of it this evening, instead conceding to bend over in front of the Washington Wizards for the second time in a week. The result was a 101-84 blowout victory for the Wiz. Linkage: box | recap | standings

Notes, thoughts, hopes and dreams...
- Call me a prick if you like, but I'm not giving the Wizards a lot of credit for this one. I don't like their team much. They have a lot of guys who only seem interested in seeing how little they can pass and how early in the shot clock they can chuck one up. They do seem to play hard, and their defense doesn't suck, but I just can't consider them a good team.
- So no, I don't think the Wizards beat us in this one. It was more a matter of the Hornets playing like crap than the Wizards playing great. For one thing, we came out in the first and third quarters with about as much energy as a fat rock. It was as if all our guys had been flashed by one of those Men In Black memory eraser things. Hey fellas, don't you remember the game last Monday? It was the one that sucked. Yeah, this is the same team. We need to decapitate them.
On top of the amnesia, we decided to handle the ball like it was a monkey on fire. 15 turnovers, many of them unforced, leading to 22 points for Washington. Not fantastic.
And then there was the total lack of teamwork. It seemed as if we were either feeding David West in the post, or else we were going one-on-one. That had to be the game plan, because we didn't deviate much from it. Lots of one-on-one means four other guys standing there watching the ball. No weak side cuts, no off the ball screens. Ugly, stagnant basketball.
- I can't say anyone played well for the Hornets tonight. Maybe Mike James, but then he was perhaps the prime example of our shitty ball movement. He got to the hole and got us some buckets, but he wasn't going to win the game all by himself.
- You know who can win games all by himself? Chris Paul! Well, at least he has the ability to takeover games and lead us to the win. Just like last Monday however, CP seemed incapable of that tonight. There was a stretch in the third quarter where he got that look in his eye and dominated for a few minutes, but at crunch time he just didn't have it going. I guess he is human after all.
- The Hornets are 0-3 with Bonzi Wells in the lineup. Not that you should read much into that. Bonzi was actually an asset during his eight minutes of PT tonight. He was hustling, made some plays, grabbed six boards. Unfortunately, he re-aggravated that Achilles injury, so he'll probably be disobeying the dress code again for the next few games.
- Antawn Jamison came up big for the Wiz, after having a sub-par outing in New Orleans last Monday. He had 28 points and 9 boards, repeatedly abusing Peja Stojakovic's defensive efforts.
- Three technical fouls called in this one. It was a pretty physical game. David West and Brendan Haywood had words after our guy gave a hard foul late in the second quarter. Haywood talked the tough stuff as he backed away. West gave it right back as he stood his ground. Both guys got T'd up.
There was plenty of bitching at the refs, mostly from our guys. I hate when we resort to that when we're playing like crap out there. Worry about fixing our own shit, not what the refs are calling. - I'm not sure how the rebounding battle came out even (44 each). There seemed to be so many trips where the Wizards would come up with a couple of offensive rebounds. Tyson Chandler started out with 5 boards in about 5 minutes, but only finished with 8 in the game.
Screw it, I'm done with this. I feel stupider for having watched that game. My brain is fried. Let's hope we can bounce back and not suck against the Knicks tomorrow.

Yikes!! That was one ugly game. The good thing is we play tomorrow. If we win, then this game will become a distant memory.

Here's to hoping CP3 (MVP of the league by the way) drops 40 tomorrow and helps me forget this one ever happened, quick!... That Wiz 19-0 run was ugly. I'm glad we beat the Suns and the Jazz recently or I'd probably be pretty depressed about this one.

we are an immature young team. even some of the guys that are 30 are complainers. three techs? whats new. who else beside west and haywood had techs? apparently we're only 9th in the league for technicals. it feels like more. there should be a post about how much we complain. surprised this was the first time ron mentioned it. I've seen it all year by chris/tyson/west...and even mo. now we have bonzi and mike james....lol. next year we might rival the nuggets!

P.S. We NEED! to work on a way ofpicking up Josh Smith in the offseason. Could you imagine the kind of monster he would be playing alongside Chris Paul (and to a lesser extent, Peja,'Fluffy' &Chandler). Yeah yeah yeah, I know the chances of this happening are about nil. Bring on tomorrow!

he plays soo many positions...he's going to get near max money, therefore how can we pay chris his max money? josh childress is the guy that has a bigger chance of leaving the Atlanta hawks. i hear it all the time. the Atlanta FO is pretty pathetic. they are boarding on clippers pathetic right about now.

I agree on you Ron... I think this will be their main problem come postseason time... I don't like the acquisition of James though..

Yeah Sparky dude I'm well aware of that, all I was stating was how much of a killer the man would be playing along side Chris. But I guess that could be said about a lot of players given the opportunity to play with Paul. If Josh Smith doesn't make mega bucks this offseason, there is something wrong with the NBA.

Scott should've had practice on Saturday. Too much shoe launch celebrating for those guys on Friday night. No practice and they get lazy. If they don't beat the Knicks on Monday I'm gonna slap the shit out of somebody.

The best thing about this game is, that there won't be a matchup against the wizards again this season..........! I don't like the complaining thing either, but the Refs were as bad as the hornets played!

Believe it or not, we out-rebounded the Wiz on the offensive end by 1. Personally I think the gamestatistician broke his pencil, and counted a couple of erratic marks on his paper in our favor. Thank god those guys don't play in the Southwest Division. They've swept us AND Dallas. I actually think Washington is a better defensive team without Butler and Arenas. They are gonna give somebody fits come playoff time in the east. In the end it won't matter, because they can't beat the Cavs. I saw something in the game that I haven't seen all year, and it worries me alot. For the first time all season, I saw "quit". I have nothing else to add, except to say our record against these sub-.500 eastern teams will determine our seed in the playoffs.... or if we continue to play like that, WHETHER we make the playoffs.

There's an ironic flip side to the Bees sucking out against the East and still having one of the best records in the league. The Hornets still have a good deal more Western Conference wins than the rest of the playoff contenders, and that is the stat that might be a tie-breaker come playoff time.

It is hard to see into the future, will this trade for James and Wells make much of a difference???? James has shot the ball well and Wells has NOT........I hope Bonzi gets healthy and finds his game soon........if so, he can do a lot of things to help a team win.......he is like many players, if he gets the minutes and touches he generally produces significant numbers.....As Doug Collins always says, "Bonzi is so strong and the smaller playerscan't guard him, and to quick for the bigger people". Will Wells have many of those outstanding games, I don't know but I would like to see him on the floor for 30+min. with CP3. It could be a devistating combination with the other players already getting those minutes. Wells rebounding is outstanding at times( lead all guards in rebs. in 2005 at 7.8r in only 32min.) BW has had games of18, 18, 17, 15, 15 and14 a few times......just look at his rebounds per minute this year.........YAL realize BW and I went to the same HiSchl and college so I know I am wanting Wells to do well......... But looking at it objectively BW can be an outstanding help for the BEEEEEEESSSSS
