The Hornets bounced back from their loss to the Jazz yesterday by blowing out the T-Wolves in Minneapolis tonight. Everybody say thanks to the nice schedule for giving us a punch bag.

Let's dive into some notes...
- Final score was 122-90 ( recap | box score | standings ). The Hornets sucked defensively for the game's first six minutes, allowing the T-Wolves to get hot. Then our guys clamped down on D but Minnesota kept hitting. It was a two-point game at the half. Third quarter, and the Hornets turned on the afterburners, leaving the T-Wolves in the dust.
- Chris Paul went without a field goal in the first half for the second night in a row, missing all four shots while dishing 7 assists. He stepped it up after the break though, and finished with 19 points, 16 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 turnover.
Still, he did play pretty bad yesterday, so there's no way he should be MVP or even all-NBA. Not only that, but the League should also take back his All-Star spot and give Deron Williams the 2006 Rookie of the Year trophy. Because, you know, Chris should only be judged on how he plays against Utah. Nothing else matters. - Pretty much everyone played great tonight, actually, as they damn well should against a team like Minnesota. Peja was hot from deep and also sneaked inside for some easy ones. David West was smooth, shooting 10-of-13 from the field and flowing around the defense. Tyson Chandler was running well and finished a bunch of oops from CP. Morris Peterson played limited minutes again but he was effective on both ends.
- The bench was also solid tonight. They scored 36 points, compared to 33 by the T-Wolves' reserves (23 by Rashad McCants alone).
Julian Wright was great, his best game in a few weeks methinks. He was doing a bit of everything out there; rebounding, starting the break, finishing the break, playing sticky defense and spacing the floor pretty good. Hilton Armstrong got in there for 13 minutes and didn't end up with big numbers (2 points, 1 rebound). I thought he D'd up Al Jefferson pretty good though, and he took a nice charge early in the fourth. He's been looking better lately. He usually gets caught out of position a few times every game, but not so much these past few.
- Jannero Pargo had a really rough night shooting before he dropped a few late. He might have been our only guy struggling for most of the game.
- It was touching to see Melvin Ely reunited with his long lost twin tonight. He and Chris Richard must have a lot of catching up to do.
- Randy Foye went off on us early, dropping four threes in the first quarter and going into halftime with 18 points. Then he stopped and thought to himself, "Wait a minute, I'm Randy Foye. What the f**k am I doing scoring 18 points in a half?" After that little inner monologue, order was restored to the universe and Foye proceeded to score a more realistic 2 points the rest of the way.
- 6:54 left in the third quarter, Chris Paul gets in the lane, emerges on the low block and fires a bouncs pass along the baseline to Peja Stojakovic. Three-ball goes down, and we have a new franchise record for assists in a season. Sorry, Muggsy, but 867 just ain't good enough no more.
- Big difference in the game: 5 turnovers for New Orleans, 18 turnovers for Minnesota. Quite a few of them by the T-Wolves were unforced too, like their numerous back-court violations.
- Spotted behind the Hornets bench was none other than Chad Shinn. You are so busted, Chad. You told me our road trip to Minneapolis was canceled because you lost an eye in a fishing accident. That's cold, man. I want my BFF ring back.
- Gil McGregor's best/worst pun of the night: After Pargo fed Bonzi Wells for an alley-oop to start the second quarter, Gil called it a "Wells Pargo deposit." He's been holding on to that one for six weeks.
- Byron shook things up a little tonight. Rather than throwing a starter (usually West) out there with the reserves to start the second quarter, he went with all bench players. Then to start the fourth quarter, he started Chris Paul despite the 16-point lead. Interesting.
- Play of the game: I had it pegged as Chris Paul dancing around the Wolves defense to drop a layup late in the third quarter. But then, about ninety seconds later, Chris nailed a back-breaking three from the corner as the buzzer sounded. That took the cake.
- Recaps by other bloggers, as I find them: At the Hive
So win 55 is in the books. A new franchise record. Of course, they'll probably have to put an asterisk beside it because we lost to the Jazz three times, and that essentially means the entire season was a waste of time.
Moving on...
The Suns just got done blowing out the Spurs in San Antonio tonight, so that means the Hornets are again two games clear of everyone at the top of the Western Conference. The Lakers play the Clippers tomorrow before we meet Kobe and Co. in LA on Friday. Big game right there.

Ron, you're slipping... You didn't mention how not only are the Jazz better at EVERYTHING than the Hornets (just ask the ladies in Salt Lake),our excitement over Bonzi's performance is clearly overzealous, since the Jazz getting Ashton Kutcher is obviously the best trade of the season. Maybe in the history of trades. I know this was all of yesterday, and I don't wanna go hating on D-Will because the kid is a star in his own right, but he wasn't actually that much better than Chris last night. Both shot 2-11 for 4 points. D-Will had 6 turnovers,16 assists, 0 steals and his team shot 43.8%. CP3 had 3 turnovers, 9 assists, 3 steals and his team shot 36.5% So the average contribution kinda evens out (+assists, +steals, -turnovers), and I suspect if his main guns had've been hitting their open shots, CP would have had about as many assists. I just read some game recaps that were implying Chris got COMPLETELY smoked by Deron, which I think is crap. They both played a poor game and didn't come through when needed. Okur did and that was the difference. Good job by the lads to rebound tonight though. Now to kick some Kob-ay.

Everything seems to get maginified when we play the jazz. I was reading numerous message boards and articles saying Paul didnt deserve MVp after the teams performance to the jazz. We why didnt these people say the same thing when Kobes team lost to Charlotte, memphis and now Portland is a span of a week and half-2weeks.

@ Emir: The fact that Pargo and Mo Pete have lots of bad shooting nights is probably the reason why Byron won't bring Mo off the bench. Bonzi works good with the second unit because he's a reliable scorer. If he was to start, I doubt he'd get as many shots. If Mo was to come off the bench, he'd have to provide more of a scoring punch, which I'm not sure he can do as well as Bonzi.

The Bitterness of the Utah jazz towards CP3 is outstanding.

So does KG not deserve MVP consideration because he can't beat Antawn Jamison? (the Wizz beat the Celtics for the 3rd time last night to win the season series) What an idiotic argument. Someone else who's not getting enough credit..... Jeff Bower. Getting Donatello in that Houston trade is still underrated. That is one bad-ass Ninja Turtle that has been a reliable contributor coming off the bench for us. I don't think we would be in the position we're in if it weren't for Bonzi..... and Master Splinter's training of course.

I wonder if April O'Neill got some Playoff tickets. Or maybe she doesn't need tickets because she can just use her media pass with Channel 6 news.

The MVP articles until the season is over are all bluster. We all know it but don't admit it. And so we all, myself included, get angry about everyone that's dumb, as if we didn't know they were just picking up on the latest trends and changing their minds constantly so they have new articles to write and sell. Every MVP article contains the caveat, "but I'll hold my vote until the season is over" in so many words. Like CP dropping 40-20 in the last game against the Clippers is going to make someone say, you know, he IS the MVP! So regardless, until we complete the season, it's all just bullshit posturing. Kobe has a good run and they talk about him. The Cavs slip a few games and they talk bad about Lebron. All year people say the MVP shouldn't come out of the West. But then with the two favorites tanking games to bad teams (even if they're putting up decent numbers), and the next contender on a small market team (CP), all of a sudden, people turn around like they're surprised and say, "whoa, this Celtics team is good." Maybe KG? Which, of course puts more emphasis on the fact that KG rolled moving trucks from Minny to Beantown, rather than actual play this year. Pierce had been the clutch player for that team. Oh, but KG brought defense! Really? What about their new defensive coach, who's generally credited with the new-look defense? Or the seven-some new guys on the roster? It's not about who wasn't there last year. It's who's making the biggest impact this year, on the floor. And suddenly the whole thing about three-future-hall-of-famers argument fades away. Which only puts the emphasis back on team record. Like the argument that CP "has" to get it if the Hornets finish first. (Or conversely that Kobe should if the Lakers pull it out.) But this isn't a team record. It's an individual record. It's about who makes their team better, and a winning record reflects that, and is therefore relevant--but shouldn't be determinative. So there's a lot of things people should look at for MVP. But it shouldn't be anything other than the player and what they've done THIS year. And it shouldn't be measured by the player's performance against a specific team or by any one bad game or stretch, because the award is about 82 games. But that's just my twenty cents.

I agree with everything you say... except for the winning record part. If player x creates 23 wins for his team, and they go 33-58 instead of 10-71 and player y creates 15 wins for his team, and they go 60-22 instead of 45-37, who gets your vote? I see no reason we should be crediting the MVP candidate for the fact that the rest of his team allows him a 45 win baseline instead of a 10 win one.

I'm just relieved I don't have to write an Ode to Bonzi's Mole. Or wear the same underwear for a long time. CP did only get one steal. I was in trouble for a while.

@ RS: I have to give credit to Mikey for the Randy Foye comment. I was watching the game with him and he came up with it.

NOW TOMORROW IS THE DAY WE GET TO PROVE WE ARE READY 4 THE PLAYOFFS.In LA, with most of the media poised to hand Kobe the MVP trophy(well the actual presentation won't be for about 2weeks) we have the opportunity to play the spoiler....... and send Kobe home again empty handed, and a frown on his pompous face.....If we loose we may get up off the matt and still salvage our season.....but it will be hard......especially after that disappointing loss to the Jazz.......Can we handle this late season surge of pressure to get the top seed?????? I think we are up to the task, ready 4 the challenge and primed 4 prime time in this Wild Wild West. It's going to be WAR in LA, the boys from La taking on the boysin LA....a win there would really turn heads in the NBANation....come on men let's "get er done". How about CP3'S 16assists and only one turnover....WOW!!!!No one else can do that with the regularity of our little BIG MAN Paul. I would say we got a consistant performance up and down our roster..........last nite. No one can guard Kobe butno one can stop our MVP either....it will be a battle of wills and come down to execution and playing smart....this is probably for that #1seed and we can take that big cake and eat it to.... Geauz Hornets and take 3 of the last 4 and beeee ready 4 the playoffs.

mvp is a stupid award. if kobe gets fine. if chris gets it fine. if kg gets it - on no he won't cuz apparently he isn't on the best team in the league - oh wait, yes he is. the award is weird. every year we have different reasonings. does it go to the best player on the team with the best record? or the best offensive player. or does it matter which conference? blah blah blah. kg -2004 nash-2005 nash-2006 dirk-2007 its a frikken curse. i hope tim duncan gets it. no more spurs in the finals! and to MV - what a lovely rant. kg didn't play this year? he isn't one of the best defenders to ever play the game? god shut up! btw a defensive coach doesn't actually play the game. and if you look at that roster, only kg and james "dirty" posey were good defenders. everyone else was average. kobe is our rival. diss him. did kg sleep with your mother? get over him already.
