Unless something major changes over the next few days with the workouts for the Hornets, I'm feeling pretty certain about one thing:
The Hornets won't be drafting in the first round.
The Hornets have only brought in three players who are generally accepted as possible 1st round prospects: Mario Chalmers, Gary Forbes and Courtney Lee. When Lee was brought in, it was also before a string of workouts that appears to have moved him solidly into the first round. If the Hornets were bringing in guys who were on the bubble: Richard Hendrix, Ryan Anderson, Jason Thompson, Nathan Jawai, or DJ White, I might just think they were covering their bases, but they aren't.
The Hornets pick is 27th. Typically you'd bring in prospects rated 20-40 and take a look at them. The Hornets, however, seem to be bringing in prospects rated 40-undrafted. The few higher rated players they have brought in strike me as more of a "Plan B" - or smokescreen to cover what they are doing.
This, of course, leads to lots of wild speculation on my part. They probably have a trade in place, but is it just a cost cutter? Dropping from the first round to the second to save money, while assuming they can still get a player of the same quality after falling?
Or do they have some trade in place for a more important piece, having used the 27th pick as a sweetener? That would fit more, since this draft evaluation process seems like a way to find potential prospects for the summer league team, not a late-first, early-second round pick.
So unless the quality of the players brought in for workouts improve greatly over the next couple days, we can probably expect some sort of move on Draft night. I'll be watching.

I hope they Draft. Because there are still possibilities, that a player like Douglas-Robert will slip to 27!!! He is already a nice player now and I'm pretty sure he could take that 2 spot from Mo-Pete in the near future!

I was wondering when they were going to bring in higher guys myself... but your possibility is intriguing.

I see you included them above but here are the six guys due to workout for the Hornets today: Marcelus Kemp, Frank Elegar, Aleks Maric, Bryce Taylor, Bo McCalebb and Davon Jefferson (check the link in our news section for more info on those guys).

I'm starting to wonder if they're thinking of trading the pick as well. I can't wait until draft night. It's going to feel like forever for them to reach the #27 pick.

And that guy from france? Well i hope if they don't draft at least they do some GOOD moves, because i think a lot of fans would be greatly disappointed...but if rush or lee or cdr are on the boards at 27 i don't think they won't draft one of them..

If we do draft, I got my fingers crossed for CDR or Courtney Lee if they're available

Its so funny reading all these comments about how the hornets are not going to be drafting in the first round because they are only working out second rounders. This is very wrong and here is why. a) Guys like CDR, Rush and Batum are refusing to work out for teams below a certain pick, and therefore we miss out on an oppurtunity to work out for them. Julian did the same thing last year but he still ended up dropping and we still picked him even though he did not work out for us. b) Guys like Jamont Gordon, Shan Foster, Sonny Weems, Gary Forbes, DJ White and Joey Dorsey are all late first to mid second round prospects. Even though some sites list them as second rounders no one would be shocked if one of these guys got picked in the first round. From what i am hearing the Hornets really like Sonny Weems, Gary Forbes amd Jamont Gordon and if Courtney Lee is no longer available look for the Hornets to draft one of those 3 or trade with Minnesota or Portland to pick up 2 second rounders and pick up 2 of those 3 guys. c) From what I am hearing the Hornets main guy is Courtney Lee and we have already worked him out. I would not be surprised to see us move up to draft him. There is also indication that the hornets may have given a "soft" promise to Mario Chalmers. Word is the Hornets told him that if certain prospects are not available and ifa trade is not made than they would pick him. This may be a reason why Chalmers felt very confident he would bea first rounder(especially with news that Lee might go to orlando at 22) and thus decided to stay in the draft. From everything I have gathered through various sources the hornets feel as though there isa lot of talent in this draft and therefore they are exploring all options (moving up to draft Lee or Rush, Staying put and drafting Chalmers or moving back and picking up Gordon and Weems).

Im hearing the same things that the above poster said. Hornets really like Lee and if there is a way to get him they will get him. If Lee and CDR are both there(which is very unlikely) I still think they would go with Lee. Hornets wanted to workout Walker but he refused the workout and now the Hornets seemed to have canceled him out of their plans. hornets like the wing prospects better than the big prospects. Hornets are talking to both Minny and Por about moving back and picking up 2 second rounders. Right now I would say its a 4 way race(assuming CDR does not fall which would complicate things) 1)Lee..2)Chalmers...3)Gordon...4)Weaver

Nice input, guys. I never really considered that players might be refusing to work out for the Hornets, but that makes sense, too.

By the way, six more guys worked out for the Hornets today: D.J. White, Charles Rhodes, Jaycee Carroll, JaJuan Smith, Juan Palacios and Pat Calathes. White seems to be the highest projected pick out of those guys, with DraftExpress.com having him going early in the second round.

I hadn't heard about the interest the Hornets had in Chalmers - or that Weaver was a possibility, Roland. Too bad Chalmers, CDRand Lee will probably never last to the Hornets. Of course - that supports the point of my post: That the Hornets won't draft in the first round, and will make a move draft night. Nice to see you guys support what I'm saying - even if the anonymous guy comes off as a smug git.

It must be cool to be anonymous and have a bunch of sources with no links. I knew that Minn wanted to move their 2 early second rounders for a late first rounder, though. It's not a bad idea, as the drop in quality won't be that much (hey, we already had that post, right?). Is 27 early enough to make it worth it for the T Wolves though? Guess that depends who's still on the board at that point...

by the way, in one of Chad Fords blogs on espn he says that Weaver and Gordon are getting consideration by some teams in the late 20's. We are definitly one of those teams. Don't be shocked if you hear Weaver or Gordons name at 27.

if we decide to go with two second round picks players likeweaver (with his ball handling and defense), gary forbes (with his ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the line), and jamont gordon (who is combo guard who can play the point with good handles with the ability to finish strong inside) all fit a need that would benefit this team.

What's the chance that the Hornets attempt to acquire James Posey? He is rumored to be leaving Boston and joining a contender. Mind you, he will be highly sought after, as he has been a key contributor for two championship teams...

i hope the hornets move out of the first round get two second round picks and pick up two good players since this draft is so deep anyway. so the hornets could get josh duncan who would be a good backup for david west and shan foster who did win the senior class award if they dont though i hope they can pick up courtney lee because he can help out if and when mo pete has problems
