My first Halloween in New Orleans last night. Madness. Myself and a few friends headed downtown to the French Quarter and fought our way through the crowds towards even bigger crowds on Frenchmen Street.
Aliens, Elvises, Sarah Palins, Jokers, hot Asian chick cops, ghostbusters, Josh Howard Towelie, Napoleon Dynamite, Tina Turner, jellyfish, Zorro...
...and Rasual Butler in a blonde wig.
True story. There we were failing to squeeze in and take a leak at the Yuki, so we get off Frenchmen and go looking for a calmer spot to do the business. There's me dressed as Michael Phelps, only my Michael Phelps has a snorkel, flippers, a big awkward rubber tube around his waist, and green jocks over his jeans. You know, exactly like Michael Phelps. We're stumbling down the side of a street and a black Lexus pulls out of a parking lot just ahead. The driver has the window down, and I have to look twice to be sure. Right the first time, that's Rasual Butler behind the wheel and a blonde wig upon his head.
I go over and say hey. Great work last night, really rooting for you this season. He takes a minute to shake hands and talk back at the half-drunk Irishman with two pairs of underwear. Real cool. And then he's gone. Presumably home to rest up. He'll be getting plenty of minutes tonight against the King.

That is AWESOME. We were down there too, didn't see you guys, but I did remark that if you were famous it would be super easy to hide in the Halloween crowd. Who knows who's under the mask? There were so many people downtown. mW was Peja last night, and we had a lot of people come up and say, "Go Hornets!" Most of them got that he was Peja, too, even without a jersey number (he had the warmups on). Must've been because he grew the facial hair. :-P

Yeah, it was awesome that most people got who I was. I was a tiny bit surprised I was the only dress-up Hornet, though. There were the usual crowd of people in various Saints gear (including the oddly accurate black and gold, fleur-de-lis'd, fully-armored Boba Fett). Oh well. Small steps, Nola. Small steps. I was surprised that the aforementioned Irishman wasn't there as an Irish Bobby Phills. He is tall, you know. (The Irishman.) Oh well. Bummer we missed each other.

I can't decide which is cooler...seeing a Towlie, or a wig donning Rasual? Toss up.

We'll catch up tonight, mW. I didn't see any Hornet costumes either. Not even the Hornet I saw was dressed as a Hornet! There were a few Jackie Moon's out and about though. I had a brain fart on those for a while, assuming it must be Jamario Moon that they were trying to imitate. There was me thinking Jamario had an unusual amount of fans down here.
And no, I don't have any pictures, not even of my own costume. Gotta get me an iPhone pretty soon so I can capture this stuff.

I saw -a- Michael Phelps, but I dont think it was you. I wasnt in a costume, and you would have recognized me. Was on a balcony of Bourbon most of the night (with camera!)

My Michael Phelps was much different to the other Michael Phelpseses I saw last night. Some dudes just had a speedo and some medals on. I was aiming for ridiculous more so than reality.
