Fond memories of those guys in teal. It's always odd for me that folks here in New Orleans don't care much for the Hornets history in Charlotte. I understand why they don't, but it still feels strange. I started following the team back in the mid-90's, and it was the players featured in Dariusz's work above that helped make me a Hornets fan for life. Without them, there would be no Hornets247 and I wouldn't be living in such a great city.

Thank you very much for the feature Niall. It's an honor working for Hornets247, the best website in the True Hoop network.
These series were a lot of fun, althought I felt they wouldn't get the amount of responses that the 2008-09 series did get. But still for all the diehard hornets fans who are following this team since the late 80's and early 90's this for sure will be something nice to put on their desktops.
Let me know what you fans think about this :)

I wonder if Baron Davis still has a house in New Orleans. I know he loved it here and he poured a lot of money into the city after Katrina. I'll always like him for that, but basketball-wise, I'm not his biggest fan.

@Niall Not sure if BD still owns it, but it's actually Uptown right around the corner from us. I've heard conflicting reports on whether he's still the owner or not.

From my point of view, I'd be inclined to be far more appreciative of the Hornets' history in Charlotte if the mainstream media could manage not to continually A) dump on New Orleans as an NBA city B) mistakenly refer to the team as the Charlotte Hornets on a REGULAR basis, despite the fact that Charlotte has a whole new team.

Niall, it's those mysterious twists of fate that bring people to New Orleans, so we don't mind seeing the old history of the Hornets celebrated, but that wasn't our team and we won't have that bond with what went on in Charlotte. As a longtime NBA fan sure I appreciate these players; however, there can't be the blood, sweat & tears of following your team when Charlotte was a rival NFL city and despite regularly making the playoffs, those Hornets were eclipsed by the MJ years, the Dream Team, and other players who were at the pinnacle of hoops history during that era.
Dariusz makes fantastic hoops art, and it's cool to reflect that the Hornets have been a winning franchise during most of their existence. It's still so early in CP3's career, but he has the mojo in hand to be the best Hornet ever and to do that, his team needs to reach heights never scaled by the Hornets of playing for a conference championship or winning it all. Like I've said many times, I want so much more for Chris Paul to succeed because I feel the stain of losing so much with the Jazz hurt Pistol Pete's legacy as a pro. Ultimately, it's arguable that the losing and Pistol's knee injury (while making that amazing fast break pass between his legs as the Jazz were vying for their first playoff bid) cost New Orleans its ongoing NBA history. That and the owner being such a damnable cheapskate!
For people down here, Pistol was basketball history alpha to omega. Ironically, he came from North Carolina where Press Maravich coached at NC State and like CP, Pistol was a legendary high school player in North Carolina. It's kinda funny how that starting in NC pipeline & moving to New Orleans has worked for the Hornets and the two best pros to play in New Orleans, Maravich & Paul.

I love those wallpapers from Dariusz. They bring back a lot of wonderful memories. I wasn't an avid basketball fan until the Hornets came to New Orleans and those "old" guys really did it for me.
Thanks!
