Game One After Byron. The Hornets will take on the Portland Trail Blazers at New Orleans Arena tonight, game tipping just after 7 p.m. Central.
New Hornets head coach Jeff Bower will roll with the same starting lineup we saw Wednesday in Phoenix, and has said that the emphasis going forward will be on pushing and moving the ball on offense, while playing stronger defense (source). I'm interested to see how much energy and effort the players deliver, as those two things had been severely lacking this season with Byron Scott at the helm.
The Blazers are 6-3 on the season and come in riding a 4-game win streak, which sounds impressive until you see their last three opponents were Minnesota, Memphis and Minnesota again. Still, Portland is a dangerous, well-coached team with a lot of weapons and no major injuries to report.
This one isn't on local or national TV, so League Pass or in-person is the only way to watch it. Next best thing is tuning into Gerry V and Sean Kelley calling it on 106.7 FM.
I'll be chatting it up and answering questions at ESPN's Daily Dime Live chat. Join me there if you can.

LETS GO HORNETS! This is the first game I can make and I'm legitimately excited.
I love watching the Blazers and I doubt we can hang with them given that their bench is so deep, long, and athletic - but it will be fun to watch us try.
I'm going to keep a close eye on DX to see if his hustle improves. I'd be shocked if Peja is of any use given how long and quick the Blazers are.
I will miss the Pryzbilla v's Tyson battle - those were always fun and intense.

Any word on who the starting 2 is tonight? Wonder if Bower is going to stick with Devin Brown for the time being?

Yup, apparently Devin Brown will keep that starting job for now.

I'm still doubtful as to whether Scott was the real problem behind the Hornets' disastrous start to the season. I find the real problem is still an issue with the 2 and 3 positions. Unfortunately, when a team does badly, the coach is always the first to go.

Devin Brown has been re-energized by the new coaching change. Unfortunately, it's still Devin Brown.

I haven't commented on the sacking of Byron, but I thought that he was a dead man walking for a while.
Anyway, onto tonight, not sure I'm looking forward to this one, the Blazers have the best depth in the west IMO, & Rudy Fernandez would be a perfect fit for us In My Opinion :(... this match also brings back bad memories of the 4th qtr debacle when CP3 got injured against them last season.

Yeah, Thornton looked really nice. The Hornets are doing a pretty good job at limiting Portland's deep looks, too.

Hey people who made it to the Hive, how did the crowd react when Bower was introduced?
Picked up a live stream late in the 2nd half but have been listening to Sean and V. Guys seem like they're playing harder tonight. Loving my boy Lil' Buckets doing what he does best.

As bad as the third quarter was tonight (and with CP down, it was horrendous), I'm glad to have seen extended minutes with Thornton and Collison. I don't expect this type of barrage from both every time, but it's encouraging to know we have young, scrappy players who have potential.

No word on the status of Chris Paul's ankle injury. Jeff Bower had nothing to report at the post-game press conference, and Chris had cleared out of the locker room by the time the media was allowed in. Very likely though that he won't travel with the team tomorrow to Atlanta.

It wasn't karma. Chris stepped on a guy's foot. It's basketball. It happens. It was the best effort yet of the season, especially without any shots falling.

I agree LSUHornet...if a few shots drop it is a different game. Good effort guys...even after CP went down.
So where did we lose this one?

Has a fanbase ever tried to shame a player into retirement? I would love to start a "boo Peja" movement in an attempt to expedite the "shedding of the dead skin" period for the Hornets from 1.5 seasons to .5.
