Matt McIntosh of Storm Surge Photo was at Mardi Gras World earlier today for the unveiling of the Hornets' new Mardi Gras uniforms. He sent along some great pics. News release and video at the bottom of this post.

Hornets players debut Mardi Gras uniforms
The uniforms will be worn annually during the Mardi Gras season and will feature designs inspired by the city of New Orleans and the Carnival tradition.
“The Mardi Gras celebration is one of the most elaborate and important traditions to our hometown of New Orleans, and we want to recognize and celebrate this special time of year with new Mardi Gras uniforms on the court,” said Hornets Owner George Shinn. “We are excited to begin this annual celebration and remain committed to incorporating our Hornets family into the fabric of New Orleans traditions.”
The Hornets Mardi Gras uniforms were designed by adidas based on the template used for the 2008 NBA All-Star Game as a way to forever honor New Orleans as host to the NBA’s annual weekend extravaganza. The most obvious reference to Mardi Gras includes the tri-color scheme with purple displayed on the front, gold on the sides and green on the back of the uniforms. The famous Mardi Gras tradition—beads—create the trim lining the uniforms. The word-mark NOLA is emblazoned on the front of the jerseys honoring the Hornets’ hometown and host city of the amazing Carnival celebration. Wrought iron designs are also incorporated throughout the uniform, adding flare and recognition for the historic New Orleans architecture. The Hornets’ Fleur-de-Bee logo is placed on the back center of the neck of the jersey and leg of the short. The Hornets will wear the Mardi Gras uniforms four times this season including home games on Friday, Feb. 5 against the Philadelphia 76ers and Wednesday, Feb. 10 against the Boston Celtics. The Hornets will sport the uniforms on the road on Saturday, Feb. 6 at the Charlotte Bobcats and on Monday, Feb. 8 at the Orlando Magic.
Fans had the first chance to purchase Hornets Mardi Gras merchandise at the event including jerseys, hats, T-shirts and other accessories. A commemorative print titled “Krewe of Hornets” honoring this occasion was also unveiled at the event, created by local New Orleans artist “Tuna.” This merchandise will also be sold at the adidas Hornets Nest team store at the New Orleans Arena.

Maybe they could have skipped all of this and used the money to pay the luxury tax.

I'm indifferent towards the jerseys. I appreciate that the Hornets are trying to strengthen their ties to New Orleans, but the uniforms don't appeal to me all that much.

There will probably be quite a few of these seen on the streets during the Mardi Gras season. That poster is sweet.

I think they're kinda rockin. People like to buy stuff like this because Mardi Gras comes every year and you can never have enough stuff to wear at parades.

I didn't like them at first, but, really, they are one of the more intricate uniforms out there, and much more creative than, say, the Bulls simply wearing Green on St. Patrick's Day.

Love em because it's one step closer to the Jazz colors. If only that meant that we were one step closer to getting the Jazz name back, too. Love the NOLA on the front. Definitely a Mardi Gras uniform for life.

If you wear those in a game, the other team knows you are some seriously bad guys who only care about winning?
They are equally as garish as all things Mardi Gras. It's ridiculous when you're not `in it'.
I'll take 'em.
On a side note, it looks like JuJu and Collison were really having some fun on that float. That was probably Collison's first such experience. It's nice to see in any event.
Juju always looks like he's having a good time, except on the court. He needs to bring the fun in.
