Another bad 3rd quarter tarnishes Ellis’ return

The game was all but over after New Orleans stretched a seven-point halftime lead to 24 in the third quarter. The Warriors committed four turnovers and made only two field goals in the final 4:08 of the third, and Darius Songaila’s jump hook at the 1:21 mark gave the Hornets a 94-70 lead.

Paul had 14 points, three assists and three rebounds in the third. He controlled the tempo and the outcome.

"The guy is unbelievable," Nelson said. "We blitzed him about every chance we had, and he goes for 38 and nine. I don’t know what to say. He’s an incredible player."

Paul is a summer workout partner of Warriors guard Stephen Curry, who had 15 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Curry said he didn’t think their North Carolina connection had anything to do with Paul’s effort.

"His competitiveness does not change a bit depending on who he is playing," Curry said. "He wants to kill whoever he’s going against every night. He doesn’t care if you’re his best friend.
