With rookie Marcus Thornton sidelined with a sore lower back, New Orleans Hornets Coach Jeff Bower filled the void by signing veteran free-agent guard Jason Hart to a 10-day contract Friday morning.
In addition to starting at shooting guard, Thornton had handled the backup point guard duties behind starter Darren Collison because All-Star Chris Paul is sidelined four to six weeks after arthroscopic knee surgery Thursday.
Hart, who has been in the NBA for eight seasons and has played with eight teams, caught a flight from Los Angeles on Thursday night to make it in time to take his physical examination and participate in Friday's shootaround. He was expected to play Friday night against the Philadelphia 76ers at the New Orleans Arena
