  • Those Things We Do

I'm not quite sure where you are going with this post. Are you simply just looking for pre-game rituals and ideas to make going to the games more local and flavorful. The Saints blogs are mostly the same to be honest. It is information and people talking about football. I don't think it's sad that we are hoping for Lou Amundson and harping on last year's successes. We were without our best player and won 37 games. This year, he's back, we have Ariza and 2 more rookies to look forward too. With a signing like Amundson, I think it is reasonable to expect that our team will top-bottom be fairly formidable. Can we compete with the Lakers yet? Probably not unless their annual Bynum injury occurs. Can we compete with the rest of West? I think we most definitely can.

As to the point about what we do before games. I think the Hornets do a great job providing nice New Orleans flavor before the game. Since there isn't space or desire to tailgate before the games, they do the next best thing. They bring the tailgate to us: free beer to their STH and cheap beer to everyone else along with live music, a lot of which is locally flavored. This city brings out the crazy in all of us, especially when our sports teams are winning. Let's hope for that Western Conference Finals appearance and you will see how crazy these fans can be (I remember winning the Dallas Mavericks series and going on a nice jazz band walk with 500 other Hornets fans, imagine the scene had we not lost game 7 to the Spurs).

As for loving our team, the best thing we can all do in the stadium is yell louder than all the a******s that come to watch Lebron and Kobe. At least they will have to pay $31+ this year to come cheer against the Hornets and that makes me a much happier man. #

@Ryan - I'm under the impression that if we were to sign a veteran, over-the-hill point guard we would have to give him around $1.3mil a year. Amundson is not going to be had for a minimum contract in my opinion, so my statement was more directed towards opting for development at the position while allowing Lou to get the extra 500-550k we would have had to throw at the veteran. #

I'd rather roll the dice on an unknown backup PG with potential like Shakur and use the extra money to grab Amundson personally. Signing looks good to me. #

  • Fine, Let's Talk About Carmelo and the Hornets (updated to reflect reality)

Who will be our starting shooting guard if this deal goes through? Defensively, this seems like serious digression if we have Belinelli and Anthony starting instead of Thornton and Ariza. Not to mention, keeping the latter 2 will leave us with an extra 7mill or so a year to sign other complimentary pieces. I don't know, I think combined Ariza and Thornton can produce very similar numbers to the Anthony/Belinelli duo while producing far better on the defensive end. Does anyone even remember last year? Slow, offensive-minded wings are not the help Okafor and West need keeping penetration out of the lane. #

yeah what happens if CP3 and Melo start bitching cause our team isnt 10mil + over the luxury tax like all the other big name teams are. #

  • Sources: Thornton not good

We might as well get used to every mainstream media outlet making the Hornets squad look terrible every chance they get. Thornton has a higher PER than 17 of the 20 guys in the 11-30 slots and beats a good chunk of them by 3-4 points in that category. #

    And...Thornton is not on the 1-10 list. Angry e-mail or 2 well-deserved. #

I sent him an angry e-mail on the subject of Thornton (I considered the fact he might put him in the top 10, but deemed it unlikely), but did give him props on his CP3 selection and noted that nothing is more entertaining in online sports media than watching the insecure Jazz fans flock to any PG ranking article like moths to the flame. #
