  If Melo comes here and we pay out the wazoo, don't forget the publicity and media hype we would generate. I don't know finances, but I think it wouldn't be unrealistic to say we could recoup most of it back. It would either make CP stay here (or leave with Melo elsewhere), which would give us an offensive powerhouse for awhile, or they opt out and we would have a terrible team without CP or Thornton, given a trade with Thornton.
  
  Thornton is quite the bang for the buck, and don't get me wrong, he has the tools to turn into a potential double-team force, but I just don't see why we could refuse Melo. If he's inefficient, he's still proven to generate double teams (open CP = money, vice versa), sell tickets, and single-handedly win games down the stretch. #

  Carmelo has a player option for 2011-2012. CP has his 2012-2013. If we make the trade, again, there is no guaranteeing this trade would work long-term. Of course, when you have the option to get one of the premier offensive talents in the league, I would pull the trigger. If all it took were Songaila, Ariza, and Thornton, I'd take it. You know what you're getting talent-wise, and then media coverage and sales would help this team tremendously. #
