@ BeesGivingEffort - I understand now. Still! Even if the Hornets do sign up a $1.3 million veteran re-tread, the CBA states that the Hornets only pay him the same salary as a 2nd-year veteran, or 770k. The NBA itself pays the rest of the salary, and does not apply the rest to the Salary Cap.
This is to make older veterans not be less desirable than younger players purely because of salary cap and salary inplications.
The CBA is arcane! #

@BeesGivingEffort - It's not really an either-or proposition. The Hornets can grab Shakur and Amundson. They have plenty of room - and Shakur, if his contract becomes guaranteed, is making the 2nd year veteran's minimum - or about 770k. #

Just my own two cents: I would not include Thornton AND Ariza in a deal to land Carmelo.
Too much to give away, first off.
Second, I can see the Hornets being effective with Melo and Ariza starting - or Melo and Thornton. I can't see us relying on Pondexter or Belinelli next to him. Those guys have way too much to prove or develop for that to work. #

Hey Hornet, I can't think of a reason why the Cavs would want Okafor. They need to either completely clear the decks and start over, or they need to use the exception to find a creative scorer to be the focal point of their offense.
Okafor doesn't help them do either of those things - and in fact hinders both of them. #

Ryan Schwan started blogging in September of 2007, and soon decided to scrap his blog and join forces with Niall Doherty at Hornets247.
Ryan is a father of three living in Richmond, VA. He has a shirt given to him by his kids that reads "World's Best Dad", and is therefore a better Dad than you, unless you are from another planet. Other than being the World's Best Dad, he aspires to be a fantasy writer and works as an analyst, turning business requirements into design documents. Exciting stuff. He's been a Hornets fan since 2001, and seen almost every minute of Hornet's basketball since then.
